Both this week and last week are finally starting to give a flavour of what the Purple Carrot is about, as many different parts of various communities got involved, used, enjoyed, partook of or benefited from this little venture being here.
Sunday 22nd we enjoyed a very successful golf pairs tournament including a win for Hassocks’ own Mr Grumpy-shut-me-door-n-leave-me-alone Forshaw.
The Hassocks Open Houses event (28,29 June) saw the purple carrot involved and hosting work from Downlands school students (aged 11-15) which has been very actively engaged in with over 50 pieces of work making the cut. THESE WILL BE ON DISPLAY UNTIL Sunday 6 July – so get along to have a look, maybe even invest in a budding young talent.
The weekend also saw year 5 of the Hassocks “fat-boys” invitational football tournament with over 50 old and young men in 8 teams huffing puffing and generally enjoying themselves, before settling down with families, friends, food and further football (lucky Holland!) at Keymer & Hassocks sports and social club on Adastra park. – roll on year 6
This week we change tack and on Wednesday evening indulge in the first of our wine tasting sessions dubiously dubbed Wine Wars to find out in a lighthearted manner which country Hassocks thinks has the best wines. With the final not until December there is plenty of chance for you to get involved in determining the outcome in the coming months. This month – France v Australia
As if that wasn’t enough on Thursday we have the top Trivia Quiz (8pm for 8.30pm start) it really is trivia, and it’s usually quite interesting, oh and we do have a current Jackpot round worth about £225 for the winner, not life changing, but certainly enough to get a few of those bottles of wine you should be tasting 🙂
Obviously we’re still doing not just the best but also the biggest variety of teas and coffee’s in the area. It’s Summer so time to show off our shakes and smoothies, iced coffee and espress-gelatte, some well interesting bagel combo’s, mouth watering Tasca melts, p.c. frittata’s, salads, homemade ( i.e. by us) cakes and slices, local cheeseboards, and the only shakshuka this side of the Thames, pretty much something for everyone…
…and that’s the way we like it, so thank you Hassocks
