Cracking day, excellent fun, marvellous spirit, huge burgers – super prizes!
Thanks to everyone who took part, and thanks to all of you who helped organise and put the event on.
Big thanks to Haley for us finally remembering to take team photo’s, and well done Aaron for getting back from hospital to sort out the BBQ.
On the football side of it, things returned to normal with a 5th tournament win in 8 for the Fat Boys (former Whippets), a nearly unblemished record seeing 10 wins and a draw with no goals conceded.
Good performances from most teams helped keep the day lively and interesting, and only the homespun Hassocks talent seemed to struggle ending up occupying the bottom three places. The Carrotiers once again failed to score many / any (inside of the post the closest this time) but a squad of 16 at the beginning of the week decimated to 6 and a half by first kick-off was a bit too big a burden for the willing remainder – thanks chaps next year is our year!
Also this year was the first presentation of the “Michael Chapman award for services to Fat Boys”. This deliberately ambiguously titled award was this year presented to none other than….Michael Chapman, the only person to play in all eight tournaments, constantly organising, critical, helpful, supportive, innovative and a real bonus to have had around for the length of it all. He gets to award the trophy next year, not keep it – we’re not that generous. Next year we’d also like to award the player of the tournament trophy again, but Lawrence seems to have squirreled it away in London somewhere, not the sort of behaviour you would expect of a parking enforcer!
