Ok so we’re a coffee bar, but we also do bagels, and tasca’s oh and some innovative brunches, and cater for events, and parties – young and old(er) – and quizzes, a bit of quality wine tasting every month, and bookclubs, and local young people groups so why on earth not diversify a bit and offer some sports and leisure activities too? It’s not like we’re busy or anything.
Running – The Hassocks Hash – meets once a month at the Purple Carrot (7.30pm prompt) runs off into the dark night and returns for refreshments about 45 minutes to an hour later. All abilities and ages are welcome.Ok so we’re a coffee bar, but we also do bagels, and tasca’s oh and some innovative brunches, and cater for events, and parties – young and old(er) – and quizzes, a bit of quality wine tasting every month, and bookclubs, and local young people groups so why on earth not diversify a bit and offer some sports and leisure activities too? Golf – DOGSoc (Decidedly Ordinary Golfers Society) – play out their fantasy of being the next entrant to the european tour (senior tour nowadays for a lot of us) until coming down to earth at hole 2 or 3. A loosely held together society that meets up at different courses to sample their food, test out the quality of their sand / water / out of bounds hazards and talk through what really should have been a better round and what a nasty piece of work the handicapping committee really are. email email@example.com
Football – We now run two tournaments a year, plus hosting any 11 a side matches people may wish to put on. We use the facilities at Freedom Leisure, Downlands School in Hassocks. The summer tournament – Fat Boys Invitational attracts a range of teams, local, Brighton and even London who now have the unenviable task of trying to unseat the Fat Boys (former whippets) from their lofty perch as 3 time winners. The development trophy is run in the Winter Festivities (mainly because Michael thought it would be a good idea) and encourages young to mix with old and give a better understanding of the game email firstname.lastname@example.org for more details
On the leisure side the quizzes both pop and trivia are still going strong after more than 30 episodes each so we thought we might as well get a bit more culture under our belts and start up a book club (or symposium as I like to call it ‘cus it’s more about the chatter not just the printed words that matter) and there will be more and more things to appeal to the diverse communities in and around Hassocks – why not suggest and set-up up something yourself??
Not satisfied with these extras we have NOW also decided to become comedy providers – well helping to source some comedy talent and bring something a bit more diverse to a sadly lacking Hassocks nightlife. “ha HA Hassocks“ was born in May 2015 and our first event went down a storm @ The Adastra Hall on August Bank Holiday. This was followed up by a three sell-out stand-up events in the Autumn at the Hassocks Hotel Function rooms and a much fuller programme came and went in 2016 including a secons Bank Holiday sell-out in August, and a widely appreciated Treason Show special in December. For 2017 we are looking at a series of more bespoke events in differing venues to try and include as many parts of the local community as possible, starting with a Comedy / Music fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Society in March
